Cyber Monday is coming and I must take this chance to remind everyone there are a couple ways that you can make a difference to the Villisca community when you shop online.
First of all, don't forget to check out www.villiscasnewhorizons.com online store. There are some neat things up there now and more to come.
Secondly, don't forget to start your shopping at www.igive.com. There are over 700 stores at igive.com, ones that you are likely to be shopping at anyway. If you are new to igive.com - click the link that follows and the charity of your choice will receive a $5. bonus if you shop within 45 days of signing up. I hope you will make Villisca Community Schools or one of the other Villisca charities the charity of your choice. Those dollars add up when we all do it together. Thanks for making a difference in the life of Villisca. http://www.iGive.com/welcome/warmwelcome.cfm?c=33787&m=77442

We also are encouraging schools to have spirit nights. During conference basketball games the hosting team could choose a theme for the night and compete against the other school for school spirit. The Villisca Student Council will be deciding theme nights for all Villisca basketball home games.
For ordering information contact Shona Means at 712-826-2552 or smeans@villisca.k12.ia.us

Some thoughts as we head into thanksgiving week. This came from "The Green Mountain Tates" blog.
All His Waves and Breakers are washing over us.
On Monday the van broke down but we were blessed to have the use of Job's car at the time.
Job's car broke down yesterday.
Our family of six has been reduced to relying on the '96 Chevy S-10 formerly of Sanel Auto Parts for transportation. But we're laughing and happy, if a bit philosiphically grim.
God is good, after all, and we're feeling that as keenly as ever. God's providence has a way of obscuring his goodness. When the checking account, the refrigerator, and the driveway are all pleasantly full we begin to think that things are only as they're supposed to be. That happy condition becomes the baseline and we think that if God wants to prove his goodness he must improve our condition, rather than simply take credit for it
But in the absence of his providence I'm left with his goodness. And he is good. The Psalmist says "Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls; all your waves and breakers have swept over me. By day the Lord directs his love, at night his song is with me - a prayer to the God of my life." (Psalm 42:7b-8)
Amen

This morning I have again looked at a couple grants that are due this month. They are grants I believe we could get but for one thing - they require matches. Without a match we can't apply. So, this morning I am having to abandon two good possibilities because of that "but for one thing."
This is nothing new. It is faced over and over again. These two that I am abandoning today have to do with working with entrepreneurs and small business people and helping them toward greater success; with developing a couple new businesses and some community services in Villisca in the food industry; and with improving the health and nutrition of people in Villisca. It is frustrating because these could bring such opportunity to Villisca and Villiscans. If there are people out there who are looking for places to put some money either as a donation or in establishing an endowment, Villisca is a great place. If you have a specific project or area of life, when you make your donation, you can designate it for that purpose. If you just want it to go toward making a difference in the life of Villiscans, that would be great too. There are several options for where you could make the donation/endowment. Contact me at villisca@villisca.com for more information. I will hold your inquiry in full confidence.

Plans are still being made for the total program, so watch the Villisca Review and check online at www.villisca.com for updates.
