Word was received this morning from the Southwest Iowa Human Society in Clarinda that they are over capacity and need some help with finding homes for some dogs. A description of the dogs follows. For more information you can contact them: Heather, SWIHS volunteer,
1) Adam - Odd mix, neutered male. Honestly, I really don't know what to call him. He is reverse brindle in color (hard to tell in picture), so he's an orangish/yellow with black stripes. He fur isn't really short like a pit, but he is shorthaired. He's great with all the other dogs and seems to get along with just about everyone. He is pretty small (about knee high). About a year old.
2) Bandit - Pit Bull Terrier mix, neutered male. Bandit's ears are cropped (unfortunately) and he's brindle in color. He sounds vicious at first bark and he's cautious around strangers, but will let them approach and pet him. No growling or aggression. Does better with women and children. Knows sit and shake. Not good with unneutered males, but okay with other dogs.
3) Barrio - Australian Cattle Dog mix, male pup. About 5 months old. White with black and tan speckling. Very sweet pup, can get a little dominant with other dogs, but with a little manners is getting better.
4) Bianca - Sheltie/Aussie mix, spayed female. She's very sweet with people, has a problem with some other dogs. I think she'd be fine in a household with other dogs, but would definitely need to be introduced slowly. She'll play with other dogs at the end of her chain, but only on her terms.
5) Blossom - Australian Shep/Dobie mix, spayed female. Blossom is a "special needs" dog in that she came to us with severe mange and now has minor flare ups of allergies and such that can be taken care of with meds. She had a horrible living situation in her past home. Had pups before she came to the shelter, but they all died. No cats for her, she has a high prey drive. Seems to be housetrained.
6, 7, 8, and 9) Cambrie, Candalyn, Carlin, and Caroline (in that order). Litter of pups abandoned at shelter. 3 females, 1 male (male is 3rd - Carlin). All very shorthaired except Carlin's hair, which as a little wave to it. Caroline is the rust colored one, the others are white with light cream patches. About 3 months old.
10)
11) Margo - Boxer/Hunting Dog mix, spayed female. Margo is one of the sweetest dogs we have. She is pretty mild mannered and listens well. She's staying at Karen's house temporarily until we get some room at the shelter. She's good with the other dogs. She's white with speckles. If you look at www.rufnit.com she looks like the Braque de Bourbonnais dogs (they were at Dog Dayz in Clarinda).
12) Mario - Terrier/Shepherd mix pup, male. He was brought in with his sister as "strays", however they knew that the mom was a small dog. He looks like he'll be about medium sized.
13) Nanook - Husky mix, spayed female. I sent Nanook's life story already :)
14)
15) Quincy II - Husky/Lab mix, neutered male. I know it's confusing with two
